Background

Prior to joining Sterling Partners in 1999, Michael was Co-Founder, Chairman, President and CEO of NeighborCare, a publicly-traded pharmacy services provider. Michael sold the company to Genesis Health Ventures in 1996. During his time with NeighborCare, Michael developed and managed the business model and led the strategic visioning of the company. He grew the organization from a single retail pharmacy to a national leader in the provision of pharmaceuticals to the long-term care and managed care industries. Under Michael’s leadership, NeighborCare evolved from a single retail pharmacy to a leading institutional pharmacy provider with revenues in excess of $1 billion and EBIDTA of more than $120 million. Michael left NeighborCare in 1999. In 2005, the company was sold to Omnicare for $1.8 billion. Michael was also Senior Vice President of Signet Bank. In this role, Michael viewed hundreds of business models during varied economic cycles, and learned to appreciate the influence that management has over operational and financial outcomes. During his time at Signet, the bank’s Commercial Finance Division grew from a start-up into the market-share leader. Michael was also an executive with Brown’s Supermarkets, with broad general management and operational supervision responsibilities. This experience taught Michael the nuance of operational execution and the need for precise, strategic planning—critical skills within the thin margin supermarket industry, and within the Sterling Partners environment. Michael is also a Certified Public Accountant (non-practicing).
